The paper will discuss the main theoretical approaches to understanding the professional learning such as psychological, socio-cultural and theory of practice. The core aspects of every approach and prospects for further development strategies of professional learning will be presented. Also, this article will cover the impact of these theories on the development of professional learning methods. Psychological and social-cultural approaches have some history in applying in education, but the theory of practice is a new approach to learning, which has been recently developed. Trends and studies demonstrate the promise of this approach for professional learning.
