Features of the English toponimical picture of the world

The article discusses the features of the English toponymic picture of the world. The interrelation of the picture of the world and language is substantiated. It is noted that the linguistic picture of the world is a set of knowledge about the world around a person, formed and changed with the help of various means of language. The classification of toponyms according to the type of geographical object is presented. Toponymic layers (Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Latin, Scandinavian) are described. It is concluded that the main features of the English toponymic picture of the world are historical significance and conditionality, the availability of information about the physical characteristics of the area, the reflection of cultural heritage, the influence of linguistic processes, social, cultural and historical factors, the presence of emotional coloring, the relationship with local legends, stories or even tragic events.
