The aim of the study was to evaluate the basal and phytoagglutinin stimulated production of interleukins 2 (IL 2) and 4 (IL 4) by mononuclear leukocytes in diabetes mellitus. 8 patients with type 1 diabetes, 21 patients with type 2 diabetes and 6 patients with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) were included in cross sectional research. In type 1 diabetes basal production of IL 2 is increased, and basal production of IL 4 is decreased. It is of interest that production of IL 4 in LADA was significantly higher.
Autoimmune diabetes mellitus, type 1 diabetes mellitus, latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, cytokine production by mononuclear leukocytes, interleukin 2, interleukin 4
