This article is intended to explore the main aspects of text manipulation in terms of teaching Russian as a foreign language (RFL). Text manipulation steps are supposed to be cohesively and coherently organized as it is vital for successful development of student communication skills. This article reviews and makes detailed assessment of the main aspects of text manipulation, describes the key features of each aspect, gives examples of the most effective tasks, aimed at moving from pre-communicative methods to communicative and interactive tasks, developing oral skills.
