Features of convective heat transfer in magnetic nanofluids

The influence of an external uniform vertical magnetic field on the convective instability in a plane horizontal layer of magnetic nanofluid heated from below or from above has been investigated experimentally. The features of convective heat exchanger have been studied in the dependence of an applied magnetic field and a temperature drop for fluids with different content of magnetic phase. It is shown that the heat transfer in the magnetic nanofluid is increased due to the thermomagnetic convection several times. Stabilizing effect of magnetic field on the convective instability revealed under the heating of layer from below does not agree with the theory prediction.
