The purpose of the study was to compare the somatic and biological maturity indicators in children who started school at different ages and to assess relationships between chronological age and biological development during the entire period of study. Based on a comprehensive assessment of the relevant biological maturity indicators during different periods of school education, three types of biological development in children and adolescents were identified including the developmental delay, agenormal biological development, and accelerated biological development. To the end of the first year of studying at school, the youngest age group showed significantly higher frequency of abnormal morphofunctional indicators suggesting an increase in incidence of the developmental delay type and a decrease in incidence of the accelerated biological development type. Determination of the biological development types may contribute to identifying the high risk groups of children with different pathological conditions in primary school.
