The paper deals with the problem of communication approach peculiarities in the additional language training of university staff. The purpose of the paper is to reveal peculiarities of communicative approach application in teaching English as a foreign language to adults via analysis of foreign and Russian literature related to teacher training and methodology. The nature of the concepts “communicative approach”, “deductive approach”, “inductive approach” and peculiarities of communicative approach were revealed via the contrast analysis of foreign and Russian literature related to teacher training and methodology. On the basis of literature analysis the authors described the peculiarities of communicative approach in teaching English to adults such as communicativeness, variability, adaptability, flexibility, individualization in teaching process and others; justified instructive approach application for effective learning within communicative approach. The scientific novelty of the paper is to reveal peculiarities of the communicative approach application in teaching English to adults. The most common peculiarities are communicativeness, flexibility, individualization in teaching process. The curriculum developed by the authors can be used in additional English language training of Master's students, postgraduate students, professors.
