The formation of a proactive moral ethos in student engagement in extra-curricular activities requires continuous sociological monitoring in order to assess its effectiveness and generally determine the level of student engagement. In turn, the latter creates the need for the creation and continuous improvement of tools. The aim of this paper is to present a survey methodology to identify the degree and nature of student involvement in various extracurricular activities in HEIs. The proposed methodology is described in terms of components: 1) the research objectives to be pursued; 2) the structure of the empirical indicators and their corresponding instruments; and 3) the organization of the survey (justification of the data collection and sampling technique). This survey methodology identifies the extent and nature of students’ involvement in: leisure, creative and socio-cultural activities; professional and project activities; civic and patriotic activities; student self-governance; and healthy lifestyle practices. It includes five relevant blocks of empirical indicators. Organizationally, the methodology involves conducting a survey of students (in the format of a group survey) on a stratified sample (bases of stratification: faculty and course).
