Pretend play has enormous potential for developing a child's initiative, activity, and independence. Based on a study of preschoolers' play, the authors note changes in children's play culture influenced by modern computer games and cartoons. These influences bring changes to children's play plots and contribute to the development of children's imagination and creativity. Pedagogical guidance from educators, creating a play environment in kindergarten, and providing play equipment are crucial for developing children's initiative in play. The authors discuss modern approaches to fostering a child's initiative in play, such as the multifunctional use of free spaces and transforming the environment within the group.
