The relevance of the attempted research is determined by the difficult transition period in both military education (reorganization of internal troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs into Russian National Guard troops) and higher education in general. The author reviews the main theories of psychological and subjective well-being in foreign and domestic psychology and in current researches conducted among higher military school cadets. The empirical research was done sampling 102 male youths (51 cadets and 51 students). To estimate the indicator of psychological well-being the diagnostical method of K.Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale (D.Orlova’s version) was used. The comparative analysis resulted in statistically significant differences between the samples. The military institute cadets show higher scores in all scales of psychological well-being (except that of “Autonomy”). The obtained results can indicate that male youths studying at a military institute are characterized by a more positive self-assessment and estimate of their life in general, they are more confident in their opportunities and further self-realization.
