Peculiarities of mental well-being of psychologist students with different levels of emotional intelligence

The aim of the paper is to investigate the mental wellbeing of psychologist students in the aspect of their emotional intelligence. The relevance of the research stems from the fact that emotional intelligence is gradually gaining recognition as an indispensable source of effective human development, and the ability to understand the emotions of others and one's own, to manage the emotional sphere, being components of emotional intelligence, are related to each other, facilitating effective interpersonal communication of the practicing psychologists both in personal life and in professional activity. Success at work and satisfaction with one's personal life provide the basis for mental wellbeing and the ability to see current events in a more positive way. During the study the level and content characteristics of the emotional intelligence of psychologist students were determined; taking into account the data obtained, the features of their mental well-being were considered. As a result, students with an average level of emotional intelligence have a significantly higher indicator of mental well-being, the ability to implement a variety of activities, to choose a strategy of action, to create conditions suitable for satisfaction of needs as well as the implementation of personally significant values, to transform life circumstances. They have a higher sense of life meaningfulness, purposefulness than students whose emotional intelligence is at a low level.
