The study focuses on the attitudes towards material and consumer culture (in a society with a developed system of mass-produced goods). In addition, the paper investigates the perception of household items in a modern society, including in the Russian Federation. The process of using and purchasing goods is becoming the main content of public life in the consumer society. Advertising plays the major role in maintaining interest in the consumption process, especially in the society where every individual participates in the process of goods acquisition. The functions of advertisement constantly change: advertisement transforms into an autonomous structure, forcing the consumer to live and make choices according to its laws, rather than just serving as a mechanism in the commodity-money relations.
