The paper is focused on the analysis of codependent relationships. It demonstrates a new look at the problem of dependence on a partner from the standpoint of a subjective approach. The authors make an attempt to consider the level of development of subjective characteristics as an intrapersonal resource that can help reduce a person’s dependence on a partner. The subject of the study was the correlation of the level of personality subjectivity with the degree of dependence on a partner, the goal is to study the relationship between the indicators of codependency and personality subjectivity and determine the nature of this connection. The theoretical and methodological basis was the views and concepts of M. Beatty, S. Peel, A. Brodsky, B.R. Mandel, G.V. Starshenbaum, V.D. Moskalenko and others. The works dedicated to the assessment of personality as a subject (A.V. Brushlinsky, S.L. Rubinshtein, V.V. Znakova, Z.I. Ryabikina, A.R. Tivodar, etc.) were also considered. The empirical study made it possible to study the peculiarities of the subjectivity of boys and girls with high and low levels of dependence on a partner, and using statistical methods (Mann - Whitney U-test and correlation analysis) to confirm the hypotheses. The results reveal a new problematic field of research. On the one hand, we can say that a high level of subjectivity should lead a person into the space of selfactualization, personal growth, and if codependent relationships hinder this, then they must be corrected and eliminated. On the other hand, the reality is that virtually everyone is in one or even more codependent relationships that can bring satisfaction or even pleasure, as well as social or material benefits. The problem is how to increase the level of subjectivity of the individual without taking him away from real life, real relationships. To understand it, research that can reveal the meaningful features of the relationship between the subjectivity of a person and her dependence on a partner is required.
