The features of internal view on the defect in adolescents with mild and moderate intellectual disability

Based on the analysis of different literature, the article reveals the concept of internal view on the defect as a psychological phenomenon in the structure of self-consciousness of people with deviant development. The paper reviews a theoretical model of positive self-perception and focus on the defect, investigates self-esteem of adolescents with mild and moderate intellectual disability. The article substantiates the psychological content of the innovative internal view on defect through the unity of its internal and external factors. Social and psychological conditions that determine the personal formation of the subject are classified as an external factor; the internal factor implies the individual differences of subjects. Besides, the authors affirm that there is an abnormal factor which is called the defect structure, i.e. the intellectual disability. The study differentiates the personal factor of self-perception of adolescents with mild and moderate intellectual disability. The research analyzes the significant impact of individual, personal and abnormal factors on the formation of self-perception of the abovementioned group of people, as well as provides the results of the study on the personal factor. Moreover, the authors identify the relevance of this factor on the development of self-perception in adolescents with intellectual disabilities.
