The article presents a theoretical analysis of the factors determining the choice of protective and coping behavior of adults with traumatic childhood experience. The theoretical provisions are based on empirical material - specific clinical cases. Various types of protective response to the consequences of trauma in children and adults are considered. Two main forms of reaction to an unfavorable traumatic experience are described. The cases of different types of response to the consequences of chronic traumatization are analyzed. The data were obtained using a semi-standardized interview that was conducted during the management of the client case. It is concluded that the traumatic experience, its type, intensity can determine the choice of personal response and behavior strategies in the future. The article also presents the views of research psychologists on the content of key concepts related to the behavioral characteristics of a person overcoming the consequences of negative life situations.
