Features of protective mechanisms in foreign students with different adaptation levels

The paper presents the results of the experimental study of protective mechanisms in the process of adaptation in foreign students. The following methods were used in the study: a multi-level personality questionnaire “Adaptability” (MLO-AM) of Maklakov, AG, Chermyanin, SV, and a test questionnaire for psychological defense mechanisms “Life Style Index” (Plutchik, R, Kellerman, G, Сonte, HR, adaptation by Romanov, ES and Grebennikov, LR). Differences between groups were evaluated using the Student's t-test. As a result of the study, the following conclusions were made: foreign students with low adaptation level use protective mechanisms of denial, suppression and regression. Foreign students with medium and high adaptability apply projection and compensation. The materials of this work can be used in the activities of psychologists in the development of psychological and pedagogical support programs for foreign students studying at the university.
