The policy of Romania, a country known for the significant influence of religiosity on the daily life of its inhabitants, is analyzed in addressing the issue of abortion in the second half of the 20th – early 21th centuries. Using the example of abortion policy, the trajectories of gender policy in this country are considered. The issue of abortion is analyzed in the article on the example of legislation, media materials and reports of non-governmental organizations. The factors that led to the liberalization of abortion in Romania and the subsequent return to the public acceptance of the practice of doctors refusing to perform an abortion procedure on demand are identified. The author concludes that the trajectories of gender policy in Romania and some neighboring countries of Central and Eastern Europe, such as Poland and Hungary, are similar, but there is some chronological discrepancy between these trajectories.
