The article formulates a series of topical questions for the analysis of the theological heritage of Archbishop Michael (Mudyugin), of which we considered three problems in detail: 1) his attitude to Catholic ecclesiology and Eucharistic theology; 2) his attitude to representatives of foreign theology (by the example of Hans Küng); 3) peculiarities of personality of Archbishop Michael. Conclusions: 1) Ph.D. thesis of Archbishop Michael is more significant from a historical perspective, because it is descriptive, not critical; 2) the articles of Archbishop Michael have not lost their relevance in the context of modern criticism of the concept of Eucharistic ecclesiology; 3) Archbishop Michael was obviously familiar with the theological views of Hans Küng, and his value judgments show disagreement with them; 4) Archbishop Michael had a high level of legal culture. The author of the article explains his attitude to the opinion that Archbishop Michael cannot be a prototype of a modern theologian, and his personality is more important than the theological heritage. The conclusion is drawn - one can either agree with this or not, because: 1) the scientific activity of Archbishop Michael does not meet modern formal requirements; 2) his works are distinguished by the rigor of the scientific attitude, the clarity of argumentation and the logical sequence of presentation, which is one of the tasks of modern theologians.
