The article considers the regional differentiation of subjective assessments of the Russian population regarding the territory of residence based on the data of the sociological survey conducted in 2023 in seven Russian regions (the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Vologda, Kursk, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen regions, the Perm Territory, and the Chechen Republic). The aim of the work is to analyze subjective assessments of the place of residence and migration attitudes. These studies have demonstrated that in most cases the population feels committed to their current place of residence, even though they are dissatisfied with some aspects of quality of life, which is due on the one hand to barriers to relocation and on the other hand to rootedness, which also limits people's actual mobility. High satisfaction of the population with living conditions, expressed through positive emotional assessments of their place of residence, is characteristic of regions with favorable socio-economic and infrastructural situation (for example, the Tyumen Region and the Chechen Republic). On the contrary, the population of regions with low assessments of the quality of life (for example, the Sverdlovsk and Kursk regions) demonstrates more pronounced migration sentiments together with high rates of migration attrition. The research results indicate the priority of measures to improve health care, increase wages, and create new jobs as key areas for the formation of effective regional policy. The findings allow recommending the development of measures that take into account regional specifics to improve the quality of life and strengthen territorial identity, which can ultimately contribute to the reduction of migration outflow and sustainable development of Russian regions.
