The attitude of young people to animal homelessness (based on an opinion poll of North-Eastern Federal University Students)

The study presents the results of an opinion poll conducted in Yakutsk in October 2019 to identify the attitude of North-Eastern Federal University students to animal homelessness. This problem is of particular relevance to the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The authors sought to determine that young people treat homeless animals with humanity. Students were asked about possible solutions to the problem and the feasibility of international practices in this regard. The authors compared the findings of opinion polls carried out in the cities of similar population size such as Yakutsk and Belgorod. They concluded that an animal threat to human is slightly higher in Yakutsk than in Belgorod. Among other things, the findings may be useful in enhancing students’ social responsibility for pet care.
