Female juvenile convicts’ attitude to their parents’ behaviour and methods of upbringing

Introduction. The article dwells on the attitude of female juvenile convicts in corrective colonies towards the behaviour and methods of upbinging used by their parents, which will significantly help understand the causes of their criminal behaviour and find the ways to correct the relations between children and parents in order to correct the juveniles. Materials and Methods. The study of this phenomenon was carried out with the help of a modified projective technique ADOR «Teenagers about Parents» (corrective colony of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service in the Belgorod region, the detention center of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service in the Vologda region; the number of participants of the survey is 21). Results and Discussion. The study showed that parents of the convicted girls are positively interested in them; violence, cruelty are almost not typical for the girls’ families. At the same time, fathers treat the girls more strictly than their mothers. Parents/girls relations vary from hyper care to indifference, their relations being inconsistent. In addition, the girls realize that they are relatively independent in their behaviour and making decisions. The data received enables the author to suppose that the respondents’ families might have both hostile and emotionally cold relations. The families under study are characterized by emotional acceptance of children by their parents, and despite the fact that the girls committed a crime their parents continue to support them. Conclusions. It is recognized that an important prerequisite of formation of the girls’ deviant behaviour is the experience of problem upbringing gained in the family and due to that there is a probability of the stable asocial behaviour and serious problems concerning the creation of a stable harmonic family.
