Pedagogical approach in reading research

The article presents a pedagogical approach to reading research and reveals the directions of reading study in modern pedagogy. Attention is paid to the consideration of reading issues in the works of classics of pedagogical science. The author defines the positions of reading research in the structure of modern pedagogical science. The results of the analysis of an array of pedagogical literature on the basis of the electronic catalogue of the State Scientific Pedagogical Library named after K. D. Ushinskii to identify relevant themes of the study of reading pedagogy. The main thematic areas of the study of reading are determined, the formation of the scientific field of knowledge "Pedagogy of reading", which considers reading as a component of education, is considered. The main definitions used in pedagogical publications devoted to the problem of reading are presented. Gaps in the study of reading are revealed. The limitations of reading pedagogy as a field of science are determined.
