The paper discusses the results of an experiment aimed at exploring the factors which influence the translator’s choice of an appropriate language unit and the way those factors are reflected in the translator’s mind. Three types of factors are distinguished and all of them are emotionally charged and not always consciously registered by the translators themselves.
