The article examines the issue of performativity as a key characteristic of lyrics that differ in their structure, content and purpose of utterance from narrative and other texts. The importance of studying lyrics according to their specifics, which excludes the possibility of mechanical application of narrative characteristics for the interpretation and understanding of poetic works. The nature of the lyrical text as a performative is considered in the light of the theory of J. Austin talks about performative statements that not only communicate, but by the fact of their utterance do something (promise, curse, oblige) that makes them related to lyrical discourse, which, from the point of historical poetics view, is rooted in magic and is directly related to the impact of the word. The key performative properties of lyrics, which are highlighted in his works by V.I. Tyupa (value architectonics, mode of self-actualization, ethos of suggestiveness) are considered on the example of J. Brodsky poems, particularly the images of space, one of which is the image of a house. Brodsky’s poetics of space has a few properties that are designed to change, reformat the reader’s attitude not only to the poem, but to the world, involve him in some new perspective in relation to familiar things and objects, literally affect his perception of space. It is concluded that a lyrical work can rid us of the automatism of perception and awakening, in the words of G. Bachelard’s “unconscious poetic power”, which once again proves performative nature.
