Prospects of the digital yuan in international settlements

The article considers the emergence of digital currencies as a key manifestation of the digital transformation in both international and domestic payments. Special attention is given to China’s introduction of the digital currency, utilizing its national payment systems. The main challenges are analyzed, including pressure from the United States and competition with other digital currencies. The factors driving the development of the digital yuan are highlighted, particularly the search for alternative payment systems to the US dollar and euro by a number of countries, including the Russian Federation.
