The problem of the impact of the mass transition to remote work caused by the pandemic on management practices is posed. It is shown that this transition is a manifestation of a long-term trend. The description of the changes in the functions of middle managers taking place in this regard is given. The possibilities of a broad transition to self-government and flat organizational structures are analyzed, taking into account such a factor as mutual trust between employees and employers. It is shown that due to the relevance of the application of these management approaches, the role of the leader of a self-managed team is now coming to the fore. It is argued that successful leadership in the emerging reality is formed by emotional intelligence and moral qualities. The results of some cross-country studies are presented, which make it possible to assess the prospects for the appropriate development of management in Russia.
