Prospects for the development of Russian-Mongolian cross-border cooperation

The article analyzes Russian-Mongolian cross-border cooperation in regards to evaluation of regulatory documents, the practice of the Russian-Mongolian intergovernmental commission in 2015-2019, planned and implemented joint business initiatives, humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and other aspects of interaction. We have studied the potential of border municipal regions of the Republic of Buryatia (Tunkinsky, Kyakhtinsky, Dzhidinsky, Okinsky, Zakamensky regions), which have a state border with the aimaks of Mongolia, for a number of indicators, including the demographic situation, the structure of municipal economies, etc. The strengths and weaknesses of the border regions of the Republic of Buryatia are revealed. As a result of the study, we have made some proposals on socio-economic development of the border regions of the republic, based on increasing the efficiency of the existing strengths and minimizing the negative effects of weaknesses.
