World War I occupied in Paustovsky's creativity the same specific place as it did in his destiny and in the history of Russia. Konstantin Georgiyevich has no works which are specially devoted to the war. War served as a subject background of the story "Romantics" and the second in the trilogy "The Story about Life" book "Uneasy Youth". In 1945-1963 Paustovsky wrote his main work - the autobiographical "Story about life" consisting of six books: "Distant years", "Uneasy youth", "The Beginning of an unknown century", "Time of big expectations", "Sudden advance to the south", "Book of wandering".
