On the Correspondence between V.I. Lenin and N.E. Fedoseyev in 1892-1893: Its Features, Participants, and Issues Discussed

The article is based on archival documents from the Police Department, central and local gendarmerie departments, and the published memoirs of participants in the events. The author examines the circumstances and characteristics of the correspondence between V.I. Lenin and the head of the Kazan revolutionary circles of the 1880s, N.E. Fedoseyev. A comparison of information from various sources made it possible to clarify the beginning and end of the correspondence, the circle of people involved in it, the relevance of the issues raised therein as well as to clarify the circumstances of the acquaintance of the future leader of Marxism with the works of N.E. Fedoseev, and their assessment by Vladimir Ilyich and other involved persons. The analysis of these materials helped to identify the main issues discussed in the history of Russia, among which the most acute problem was the interpretation of the prerequisites for the abolition of serfdom. The author identifi ed the range of sources, on the basis of which N.E. Fedoseev’s analytical works were written, and estimated their accessibility to persons who were under investigation and in prisons at that time.
