The article deals with the issue of the perception of Peter I by representatives of Russian conservatism in the first half of the 19th century and the modernization of the Russian state and society carried out by him. Despite the well-established points of view in Russian historiography about the predominantly negative attitude of conservative nationalism to the consequences of Peter the Great’s reforms, the article shows the process of reflection on this topic by representatives of the conservative camp as complex and multilayered, making it impossible to give any unambiguous assessments.
