The hepatotoxic action of plants from Borraginaceae family, which may be found in the fodder of agricultural animals, was considered. The clinical symptoms and physiological disturbances in different animals caused by pyrrolizidine alkaloids were described. The possibility of laboratory blood analysis and estimation of botanic content of fodder for diagnosis of poisoning by toxic plant's alkaloids was discussed. The author suggested the measure for poisoning prophylactic in animals and also the measure of veterinary and medical control for alkaloid content and their biotransformants in meat, milk, honey and other products used by people.
