Plato on musical art: experience of systematic analysis

Бесплатный доступ

In Plato’s legacy, the doctrine of music is not holistic and complete. The article presents the most systematic approach to Plato’s judgments on the art of music. The author believes that such an approach allows us to get closer to the conceptual vision of the specifics and the role of musical art within the framework of Plato’s teachings and all ancient philosophical classics. This problem is solved by the author, based on the methodology and logic of Plato’s idealism and specifically his soul’s teachings, which allows to offer an adequate classification of musical art in Platonism. The Ideal State of Plato is another prism for understanding the essence of musical art and its classification, which is determined by the objectives of achieving harmony and civil virtues.
