Introduction. The article shows the current state of diagnosis of psychological problems of a person and a social group and examines approaches to its understanding. The purpose of the study is to establish approaches to understanding the diagnosis of psychological problems of an individual and a social group. Materials and Methods. Highlighting the lack of a common understanding of the psychological problem, the author advocates understanding it as a phenomenon of consciousness, which is a system of interrelated components, stands on the philosophical position of constructive alternativeism, which allows us to consider the respondents’ statements about their psychological problem as constructs, and use the method of logical analysis and the method of interpreting the “generation of reader’s meaning”. The author considers the application of the phenomenological method at the beginning and the end of the study of the psychological problems of the social group, but depending on the place of its location in the diagnostic chain, assigns it a different role. Results. The author points to the need for an anthropocentric approach to the understanding the psychological problem. Discussion and Conclusions. The results of the research reveal the approaches to understanding the diagnosis of psychological problems of a person and a social group, and the problems existing in this diagnosis, and can be useful to a practical psychologist working with the client’s psychological problems.
