The article deals with the problem of regulating the ethical issues of using AI in higher education. The relevance of the study is due to the active integration of AI technologies in the educational process of higher education institutions and the need to develop common approaches to the students’ use of these technologies to perform academic tasks. The aim of the study is to analyze the existing approaches to the regulation of ethical issues of AI use in the educational sphere and to identify generalized ethical principles of AI application in students' assignments. As a result of the study, similarities and differences in approaches to the ethical use of AI by students, developed in foreign and Russian regulatory documents of higher education institutions, are identified, and generalized ethical principles of using AI in academic assignments are identified. They include the principles of academic honesty, criticality, responsibility, confidentiality and data security.
