The peculiarities of the polyphonic space of the story by A.P.Chekhov «The Bishop (Archierej)» are analyzed. Devices leading to the realization of esthetic possibilities of thematic, key, conceptually loaded words and words – images (slovoobraz) in arranging the architectonics of the text and its subtext are described.
