Multifunctional language of diplomacy in the multipolar world

The article deals with the developments in diplomatic communication in western democracies existing within the framework of the multipolar world. The author comes to the conclusion that diplomats use a great number of stylistic devices to persuade audience members to adopt a certain view of the heads of states, of the policies pursued by them and of what they are trying to achieve in politics. The techniques of persuasion born of public relations were applied to the diplomatic communication and are commonly employed by diplomats to shape messages targeted at maximizing their desired impact and minimizing undesired collateral effects. The main emphasis has been placed on the fact that diplomatic communication encompasses the creation, distribution, control, use, processing, and effects of information as a political resource by organizations, groups and individuals. The author dwells upon the linguistic devices with the help of which public opinion is created, shaped, sustained, manipulated, and directed towards the objectives diplomats attempt to attain.
