The research examines the main agents of and factors in the political socialization of the rural youth in the Arctic regions of Yakutia in the 1970s-1980s based on regional and local Soviet Arctic historical sources. The living conditions of Yakutia’s youth in the 1970s-1980s have been studied by means of regional periodicals, namely the published memoirs of Yakut villagers. In this period, the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League was responsible for political and ideological education of young people and the implementation of social and political projects. The Komsomol practices are worth considering because of dramatic changes in the lives of the indigenous people of the North related to the transformation of their traditional lifestyle, the transition from a nomadic way of life to a sedentary one, and relevant changes in the values of young people. In the authors’ opinion, it is necessary and possible to enhance the importance of modern youth movements that can provide a basis for political socialization in case of their proper arrangement.
