The purpose of the study is to review the place of the politics of memory in the development of Confucian teachings and its impact on the politics of memory in modern China. Scientific novelty is 1) in the analysis of the relationship between historical memory, the politics of memory and ancient idealized images and traditions as the basis for the formation of the ethical and philosophical system of Confucianism; 2) in determining the relationship between the traditions and values of Confucianism as one of the factors in the formation of the policy of memory and related patriotic education in modern China. It is shown that the origin of Confucianism was largely based on the special use of historical memory. As the Confucian doctrine spread, it itself began to play an important role in the formation of public memory, and the policy of memory at the state level was determined by the principles of Confucian teaching based on special respect for tradition. The ideas of Confucius were based on the ethical principles and values of the rural community of ancient China, which implied a special attitude towards ancient traditions and their strict observance. At the present stage, the value orientations of Confucianism have a noticeable impact on the policy of memory pursued in China and the patriotic education associated with it.
