The famine of 1921-1923 had an especially harsh impact on the most vulnerable members of society – children. The article explores the plight of children in the TASSR, a region in Soviet Russia severely affected by the famine. The author also examines the aid provided by the American Relief Administration for the children of the Tatar Republic. The focus is made on the challenges faced by the ARA due to the dire conditions in the starving area.
