The article analyzes foreign experience of the definition of insider information. Russian legislative definition of insider information is given. The point of view of different scholars on the issue of the definition of insider information is considered. The main features of insider information that need to be carefully analyzed are pointed out. It is concluded that the legislative definition has significant drawbacks in terms of the content of extra characteristics. The author's definition of insider information is proposed.
