The concept of “national identity” and some approaches to its comprehension in the works of modern Ukrainian researchers

The authors have made an attempt to study the specific approaches to the comprehension of national identity by modern Ukrainian scholars. It has been revealed that identity research is an actively developing academic field in Ukraine, while at the same time it is one of the most ideologized topics in Ukrainian academic discourse. Many Ukrainian authors view identity through the prism of national identity. At the same time, a significant part of Ukrainian scholars romanticize and idealize national identity in general as well as Ukrainian identity in particular, marginalizing a number of communities with which many Ukrainian citizens identify themselves, primarily by contrasting national identity with Soviet or all-Russian identity. In addition, there are scholars approaching the analysis of this issue in a more balanced way, but they are in the minority.
