Concept of criminal prosecution

The article analyzes the legislative definition of criminal prosecution. It is noted that this definition does not fully disclose the institution under study. Based on the analysis of the norms of criminal procedural legislation governing criminal prosecution, as well as the definitions of this category, given in the doctrine of criminal procedure, the scientists-proceduralists, are called the distinctive features of criminal prosecution. In addition, the author's definition of the category of "criminal prosecution" is given.
