The author of the article pursues the goal of combining the experience of Soviet pedagogical thought and the Western approach to the pedagogically effective use of tools for recording the achievements and success of an individual. The article considers advantages and disadvantages of «Creative Book of a Schoolchild» («Books of Creative and Personal Activities», «Notebook of Success», «Diary of Creativity», «Book of Participation and Success», «Books of Personal Achievements and Records», «Diary of Interesting Events», «Diary of Help and Participation») and a portfolio. The author suggests the ways and methods for improving portfolio as a methodology and a resource reflecting the child's socialization process, the growth of his personal, educational and professional achievements. The author speaks about two main approaches to reflecting the activities of children.
