The authors analyze the consequences of the changes that took place in education in South Korea and Japan in the end of the 20 - early 21 centuries. Attention is focused on the fact that problems in the educational systems of these East Asian countries affect social relations, form a negative socio-psychological climate in society, and can lead to economic destabilization. The study provides a description of the current state of the structure and content of education systems in South Korea and Japan, an analysis of the consequences of the transition to Western models of education, the consequences of changing the value orientations of young people. The authors note that despite the crisis in the field of education in these countries, it continues to play the role of an effective lift of social mobility, provide enterprises with a highly qualified workforce, supply talented managers to the labor market, which provides South Korea and Japan with leading positions in the East Asian region.
