The article is devoted to the research of the genre specificity of Y. M. Nagibin's story 'Daphnis and Chloe of the Era of the Cult of Personality, Voluntarism and Stagnation' (1994). This work is examined in the light of pastoral idyllic tradition. Its intertextual connections with Long's novel 'Daphnis and Chloe' are revealed. It is noted that these correlations have both explicit and implicit character. It is marked that allusions to ancient Greek pastoral novel allow us to read Nagibin's story as a modern pastoral, they indicate the author's direct commitment to the text of literary predecessor and thus they confirm Nagibin's reputation as a 'pro-literarary' writer.
