Предплечье является основной трудовой единицей в ежедневной жизни человека. Сочетание перелома головки лучевой кости (ГЛК), повреж­дения межкостной мембраны (ММ) и дистального лучелоктевого сочленения (ДЛЛС) было впервые клинически описано Curr and Coe в 1946 году. Однако эта комбинация повреждений была названа именем британского хирурга Питера Эссекс-Лопрести, который представил 2 случая в 1951 году. Повреждение Эссекс-Лопрести, произошедшее после осевой травмы, существенно меняет структуру и функцию предплечья. Уровень не диагности­рованных повреждений Эссекс-Лопрести остается высоким. Однако в литературе повреждение Эссекс-Лопрести описывается как редкая травма, приблизительно 1% от всех ГЛК.
