A large percentage of admitted boys and girls to the Perm State Agrarian and Technological University have poor physical development. The article is devoted to the problem of increasing endurance, as one of the components of physical development of first-year students in the classroom in the discipline "Elective disciplines in physical culture and sports." In the first half of September, with this category of students, entrance control is carried out during the exercise - the Cooper test in athletics. The results of races in training groups and theoretical knowledge of students in the field of middle and long distance running are analyzed. The weather does not affect the results, since the classes are held in the arena (the length of the treadmill is 200 meters). In the future, teachers draw conclusions about the physical fitness of students, identify gaps in knowledge and begin to eliminate shortcomings in the technique of running at medium and long distances, individually for each student.
