The article investigates one of the types of domestic tourism in Russia - organizing visits to monasteries. The author points out to the major monastery sites reflected in the itinerary «Russian Golden Ring», specifics of the collaboration between tour companies and existing monasteries and monastery museums. The author draws recommendations on monasteries ensembles entering tourism activity
