The problem of the formation of cognitive motivation of students of a technical university when teaching chemistry is being considered. The experience of solving the problem of intensifying the cognitive activity of students with the help of properly organized independent work of students during the semester, the use of active and interactive forms of training when conducting classroom classes, and the continuity of "pre-university education - university" is described.
