The paper analyses the Russian ABC-book for emigrants, compiled by Eugenia Akinfeeva and published in Berlin twice during the beginning of the 1920s. With the techniques of slow reading, historical, pedagogical and cultural hermeneutics the authors reconstruct the pedagogical mentality that laid behind the concept and contents of this tutorial. The contents of the textbook clearly shows the experience of emigrate «first wave» of the pedagogical everyday life of their kids and interact with them in new, extreme environments. Exploring the handbook for primary teaching, we see the tool with which «its pedagogy» created a barrier that prevented naturalization for the continuation of the Fatherland outside of the motherland.
